Core game - 4 factions, each with 9 figures, and 6-10 buildings (which perform many of the actions of units). The base sets is planned to have the buildings as cardboard tokens, much as the Gates are in the core game of Cthulhu Wars. We do plan to have make plastic buildings available at least as an add-on, which would increase the number of figures per faction to 15-19.
The Core Factions are - Chaos, Darkness, Sky, and Storm.
Expansion factions - currently 3, each with 9-13 figures, and 10 buildings (functioning as above). The expansion factions are Earth, Sea, and Moon.
The Elder Races - currently we have 6 elder races, which would presumably all be in the same box as an expansion. At this time they consist of 17 figures, plus 3 buildings that may or may not be cardboard tokens. They are not factions, but allies. The current set of Elder Races (already in playtest) are Brithini, Vadeli, Elves, Dwarfs, Dragonewts, and Ducks (hurrah!).
The War Gods - a set of 7 new gods, one per faction, and each with his own special ability, heroquest, and gift. Unlike the Independent Great Old Ones, the War Gods are preset to a particular faction, so if you use the War God Expansion, then the Earth War God is Babeester Gor, and no one else.
The Magic Gods - just like the war gods, but of course a different set of gods, with different powers.
The Secret Gods - ditto.
The Monsters - neutral critters that appear on the map and hate everyone. At this time, they fall into three categories: Dragons, Chaos Monsters, and Cosmic Monsters. The Chaos Monsters are NOT friends with the Chaos faction though. Because chaos.
If we actually do all these planned expansions, we will end up with 114 unit figures, plus 69 buildings which will probably be available as figures as well. Of these total units, no less than 46 are gigantic "Great Old One" size figures, so Gods War figures average substantially larger.
Also, unlike Cthulhu Wars, there are no "shared" unit. No equivalent of Cultist. Example: the darkness faction figures consist of four trolls, three shades, the Cragspider hero and the Hellmother. The moon faction figures consist of four assassins, three selenes, the Crimson Bat hero, and the Moon Goddess. No overlap
